First Amendment RIghts
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
The United States of America was founded with the pursuit of freedom at the head of its campaign. Once government began formal establishment, the Bill of Rights was written to protect the citizens and enforce the preservation of the goals of the founding fathers. Soon, through trial and error and issues arising that weren’t covered under the broad encasement of the Bill of Rights, the supreme court and government leaders began passing amendments to accommodate obscure circumstances and avoid future leaders potentially manipulating any ambiguity.
Establishing a national religion would impede upon the subsequent confine of the amendment that free exercise of religion shall not be violated. A national religion would also generate severe conflict leading to division on political issues simply due to religious affiliation and implication. A national religion could also be a gateway for corruption if people began behaving in the name of a deity and that behavior would otherwise not be accepted.
Freedom of religion provides citizens with the ability to find hope and spirituality indepently allowing for sincerity and preventing manipulation on a national scale, if any. It also yields to cultural tolerance as some cultures are tied directly to the religion that group practices. With the principle that America is a place for people to pursue their goals and live freely regardless of their cultural background.
Freedom of speech is essential to a free nation. The citizens of a nation are not free if they are restricted in their speech because the governing power can suppress the pursuit of knowledge and awareness amongst its people and abuse this power in an attempt to establish supreme control. Freedom on all things except the impeding upon another's rights depends heavily upon free speech. This is not to say there is freedom from consequence for what is said, but one can openly express themselves, their thoughts, and divulge unclassified information in any means they see fit including in print and now digitally.
The allowance of peaceable assembly allows citizen to interact, communicate, and construct together without government interference. The independence of people generates a sense of power that the people need to have over their government, The government performs executive duties under the instruction of the people for the sake of the people and those duties can be determined at assemblies organized by citizens.
Once the government has the capability to operate seemingly autonomously, the people being governed should have the ability to correct any flaws observed by the populus. Concerns blossoming in the citizens should be taken seriously and addressed directly by the governing body and if not, citizens ought have a means to insist upon a correction.
The governing bodies must respect the needs and desires of its people because without the people, there would be nothing to govern.
